The Infrastructure Side of Document Management

As document management needs begin to expand more rapidly, companies need to prepare the infrastructure they are running their storage and other systems on. Storage capacity increases are obvious – virtually every business has had to take some measure to increase the elasticity of these environments, especially when beginning to go paperless.

However, capacity is far from the only modern strain on today’s document management systems and infrastructure. Rather, these solutions need to be accessible from virtually any location or device so long as the user is authorized. In that same vein, they need to be fortified against unauthorized access and protected from the threat of data breach.

Modern infrastructure is required for today’s document management needs.

Key areas of growth

Modern infrastructure is required to properly handle the demands of today’s document management strategies, and many companies have already turned to cloud computing services to properly update their backend systems. In the coming years, infrastructure will continue to move away from legacy and other traditional technologies and toward more comprehensive cloud-based options. For many reasons, this migration could not come soon enough.

International Data Corporation recently reported that the cloud-based infrastructure market’s revenues increased by 14.5 percent in the second quarter compared to the same period in 2015. Notably, this study focused on servers, storage, and Ethernet switch investments – all of which will play a major role in the dynamics of document management today.

According to the analysts, this equated to $7.7 billion spent on those systems in the three-month period around the globe, while the market share of cloud versus other options increased to 34.9 percent. So, not only did the researchers find that the cloud has grown in its own right, but it is also clear that antiquated and traditional solutions for servers, storage, and Ethernet are being replaced more rapidly.

Interestingly, IDC stated that the types of cloud computing solutions making the greatest wave in the hyperscale arena – the use of cloud services to better manage growth and IT strain – are changing.

“As expected, the hyperscale slow down continued in the second quarter of 2016,” IDC Computing Platforms Research Director Kuba Stolarski explained. “However, deployments to mid-tier and small cloud service providers showed strong growth, along with private cloud buildouts. In general, the second quarter did not have it as difficult compared to the prior year as the first quarter did, and this helped improve growth results across the board compared to last quarter. In the second half of 2016, IDC expects to see strengthening in public cloud growth as key hyperscalers bring new datacenters online around the globe, continued strength in private cloud deployments, and declines in traditional, non-cloud deployments.”

Now is the time to get on board with these specialized cloud services.

Maintaining optimal document management with cloud services

When businesses begin to use the right cloud computing solutions for their infrastructure, document management and other needs, there often are several advantages. For example, the cloud can at once reduce spending on IT, drive accessibility to document management systems, bolster security performances and enhance productivity.

Considering how many firms have already started to leverage enterprise mobility and big data strategies, all of these benefits of cloud computing are becoming necessities. With the right solution provider, the sky will be the limit with respect to document, workflow and transaction management optimization.
